تم إنشاء جامعة قناة السويس فى عام 1976 كجامعة متوجهة للمجتمع لخدمة منطقة القناة (بورسعيد، الإسماعيلية، والسويس) وسيناء، بدأت الكلية فى قبول أول دفعة مكونة من 49 طالب فى أكتوبر 1981 وتخرجت هذه الدفعة فى أكتوبر 1987
